WHERE DOES RUSSIA FIT IN THE END TIME PROPHECY? (part 2)

(Part 2)

Even if we have very small knowledge about history, we have to agree that only in history we would be drawn into a scene which we would be able to read the plight of Ukraine.

The Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia and the annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938. Germany’s invasion of Poland in 1938 ignited World War II. Not since the end of that war have we seen such an act of aggression in Europe. This action by Russia is changing the world. It could well lead to other actions and be a catalyst for even larger events described in Bible prophecy.

My humble perspective says that we await the appearance of the tenth horn of the beast of Revelation 17. It is very clear to me that the world power embodied in that figurative horn will have its roots in Europe.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine is awaking "the sleeping dog". Europe's nations are presently being stirred from slumber. In spite of the economic success that the European Union has built since world war II, we all are aware of the political struggles within. The reality is that every nation has its own army, however, there is no military command structure or a united Europe. The most powerful nations, like Germany, have relied on the alliance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation as well as the nuclear umbrella of the United States, consequently these nations have not rearmed themselves to become a regional power. So, now, there is pressure and a serious call for Germany to rearm itself. It is obvious, then, that this will change the balance of power in Europe.

It's real. Slumber has to be something of the past. The present reality is that Europe has to awake to the blunt aggression of one nation against another. The so called myth of a 'brotherhood' among the European nations created by the mutual economic interest is now shattered.

"At the time of the end the king of the South will engage him in battle, and the king of the North will storm out against him with chariots and cavalry and a great fleet of ships' He will invade many countries and sweep through them like a flood. He will also invade the Beautiful Land. Many countries will fall, but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be delivered from his hand. (Daniel 11:40-41)

This is a key prophecy by the prophet Daniel which describes the details of the Middle East by a power called "King of the North". History and prophecy identify this power coming from the European heartland.

Biblical scholars, theologians, have for a very long time wondered how this could occur. It is common knowledge that Europe lacks the military capability or the will to do such a thing. The question now is: Can this geopolitical event change the present reality to allow such act to happen?

Isn't what is happening now? Isn't before our very eyes with Russia attacking a sovereign democratic nation in Europe? Certainly this will awake the "sleeping dog". This is a wake up call. This is the present agony of an awakening "beast".

If we read more about this prophecy from Daniel we will realise how this Russian action fits into the larger prophetic story of the Bible.

Isn't now the time for a more comprehensive understanding of the world we live in and the events that are shaping History? Isn't now the time to consult and learn what the Bible have to tell us? (to be continued)
