Shalom my beloved

Instead of the same 'linger long' at the end of every year, I've decided to write something that I believe is fitting as we look ahead to the coming new year.

Genesis 23 begins with a powerful paradox: " Sarah lived to be a hundred and twenty seven years old …" Introducing her death. It stroke me deeply because this teaches us that true impact is measured not just in years lived, but in legacy we create. Sarah's life story continues to shape generations, showing how to build meaning that transcends time.

The Bible's detailed account of Abraham's grief and subsequent actions provide us with profound wisdom about creating last impact. Through his careful choice of burial place and thoughtful succession planning, Abraham shows us how to transform life's transitions into foundations for the future. Consider how the cave of Machpelah became more than a burial site - it became a permanent connection to the land and a testament to Sarah's last influence. Similarly, our actions today create ripples that touch tomorrow.

Therefore, in creating our legacy, we must, firstly, "honour the past". Abraham's careful handling of Sarah's burial teaches us to honour our foundations. How do we preserve and respect the values that shaped us?

Secondly, we must "build for tomorrow". Like Abraham sending Eliezer to find Isaac's match plant seeds for future generations. Our current decisions shapes tomorrow's reality.

Thirdly, we must "create connections" . The negotiation for Machpelah wasn't just about land - it was about establishing relationships and respect. Every interaction is an opportunity to build lasting bridges. The Midrash notes that Sarah's tent maintained three ongoing miracles: her candles burned from Shabbat to Shabbat; her dough was blessed; and a cloud of glory hung over the tent.

These symbols teach us that true legacy manifests in bringing more light, sustenance, and divine presence into the world.

Today, ask ourselves: What light are we kindling that will burn beyond our years?

What blessings are we multiplying for others?

What divine presence are we inviting into our daily acts?

Our legacy, isn't just about the end of life - it's about how we live each moment. Every choice, every interaction, every kind of kindness or courage weaves into our tapestry of our lasting impact.

My beloved, may the coming year be filled with wisdom, inspiration, and meaningful discoveries! May every step you take and every insight you share leave a lasting impact, shaping lives and illuminating paths with truth and understanding.

Wishing you a joyful and blessed New Year!
