Could these be the times referred to in Ezekiel 38?
It's obvious that most studies and remarks about this prophecy being related to the present war where Israel and the terrorist group Hamas are the main protagonists, are speculative. In no way I'm saying that this not what's really happening , and certainly these events are fueling various theological streams.
From my theological point of view, not looking at various 'gremlins', I must admit that there many similarities to the prophecy of Ezekiel. With that said, I am sure that the fulfillment of this prophecy will be in a very similar way, now or in time still to come.
What does Ezekiel's prophecy say?
This prophecy indicates that a million-army coming from the East will cross the Euphrates River into Israel. The prophecy goes further by stating that for this to happen, the Euphrates River must dry up. What is mind boggling, is that something supernatural has happened in the last few years. The Euphrates river has dried up. Unexplainably the Euphrates River that flown forever dried up, thus fulfilling Biblical prophecy. It also speaks of Gog and Magog. Before it was even in existence, the Bible prophesied that Russia and Iran at one point will be at war with Israel and that they will surround Israel from the North and from the South. It is very interesting that in the last few decades Russia entered a treaty with Iran, again like the Bible prophesied. It is also a fact that Iran are financing terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. The later is in the North of Israel and Hamas in the South. It is also a fact that Hamas is trying to convince Hezbollah to attack Israel and that together they will defeat Israel. Coincidental?
In his previous chapter, Ezekiel recorded how Israel would be restored to their land from many parts of the world. Once Israel become strong, a confederacy of nations would attack from the North, led by Gog. Their purpose would be to destroy God's people. Gog's allies would come from the mountainous areas southeast of the Black Sea and southwest of the Caspian Sea (central Turkey), as well as from the area that is present Iran, Ethiopia, Libya and possible their allied Russia.
While it is true that Gog could be a person, Gog could also be a symbol of all evil in the world. Whether symbolic or literal, Gog represents the aggregate military might of all the forces opposed to God.
Many say that the battle Ezekiel described will occur at the end of times. Regardless of when this battle will occur, the message is clear: God will deliver His people, no enemy can stand before His mighty power. Looking at all these facts, you might ask: "What happens next?"
Let's look what God says. God simply says to Israel's enemies that are going to come, "I am against you". In another words, it's not going to end up good for you. He continues and says, "It's not only you, Persia (Iran), Ethiopia (is probably what Sudan is today, it's right there), and then Libya", are with them". "And all of them are with the shield and helmet, Gomer and all of its troops, the house of Togarmah". These are the ancient Biblical names of Turkey today. "Many peoples are with you".
We are looking and we are seeing a whole formation of nations that is coming together for an invasion into Israel. Could this be the rise of Ezekiel 38's coalition?
But how many of you have read the full chapter of Ezekiel?
How many of you know the end of that coalition?
The fact is that they will be defeated. But who's going to defeat them?
You see, it's not going to be Israel. It's not going to be the Israeli prime-minister, the Israeli generals, the Israeli military. Not a single time it says that Israel will use its best weapons and all the military might at their disposal and thus obliterate their enemies. NO, no. God will have to intervene. And the greatest thing of all, God will intervene in a supernatural way. Nobody will be confused about Who is running the show. Earthquakes, brim stones coming from the sky, etc. That's not a weapon Israel developed. God will intervene in the defense of Israel, unleashing severe natural disasters on the invaders. In the end, the stricken pagan nations will turn on themselves in confusion and panic. The Biblical message is very clear: "All those who set themselves against God will be destroyed."
