BAD ATTITUDE

Have you ever heard of the following saying: "A bad attitude is like a flat tyre: you don't go anywhere until you change it."

During these difficult times, it is not surprising that most of us will have it at one stage or another. The Coronavirus pandemic is already wreaking havoc in a way that has most people on edge, and most of us are probably tired of hearing about it and talking about it by now.

The question is: Have we learned anything during this time of pandemic lockdown? Will we have a different attitude going forward?

It is a fact that our lives have and will change in some kind or other significant manner.

I don’t know about you but there are certain times that I feel tired and weary. I can actually state that most of us go through periods where we feel like we can’t take one more thing. It's these periods of time that sometimes life can really throw some stuff at us that make us feel like we just need some peace, some rest. And it's, therefore, obvious that most of us will automatically think of getting rest as maybe we need some sleep.

The problem lies exactly there, because we may get sleep, but the storm is still raging all around us when we wake up, we will still have no rest for our souls.

Like you, I have given this a great deal of thought. My deepest goal coming out of this period is to clear my life of non-essentials and focus on the things that make life worth living. The non-essentials would be sensationalism and cynical appeals to emotion. Fake news or non-news based on contrived images and personalities designed to manipulate are also part of what I will eliminate.

On the opposite side, I will concentrate on the "essentials". That would be God, family and faith.

I've read somewhere the following: "Though they may be poor in the eyes of this world, those who are rich in faith have the true wealth - the true treasure."

Jesus of Nazareth said that we will find rest in our souls when we take His yoke upon us and find our rest in Him.

Jesus didn't hold back when He spoke these words. He told it like it was. No fluff. No sugar coating.

Sometimes we need to hear the hard things. We need someone to get in our face and speak truth in a way that might not be easy to hear, but that will give us a little jolt to wake us from our slumber or cause us to face a hard truth.

Jesus was loving and gentle most times, but He also had no problem saying what needed to be said at the right moment.

Jesus emphasised that we need to be honest and truthful, especially when it comes to our walk with God. We shouldn’t try to fool anyone; especially ourselves.
