PATTERNS OF BEHAVIOUR

In this rapid-pace society, with fast-increasing acceleration, the world is sliding into chaos, right before our eyes. Meanwhile , immorality, crime, violence, poverty, political corruption, perverted lifestyles being legitimised, violence between races increasing are stalking the earth. It is difficult to build strong, lasting business or personal relationships.

It takes courage to love others, even if the dividends are huge. We tend to avoid being hurt by others and often wear our protective shield. Pain develops character in us. We should not be afraid to show godly love. The world needs it now more than ever.

Dr. Ed Wheat wrote , in one of his books about marriage, something that can be applied to our every day behaviour.

He said that we have to strive to be our BEST:

B—Be a blessing to others; be a help where possible.

E—Edify. Build up others rather than tear down.

S—Share yourself with others; be vulnerable (it can be risky, but it deepens and bonds real relationships).

T—Touch others; don’t be afraid to give a warm handshake, a pat on the back or a hug when appropriate.

We can make the BEST a part of our daily lives. One danger we face is expecting a reward or sign of appreciation. Do the right thing and walk on by without seeking payment. It takes courage and wisdom, but the greatest action we can take is love.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Our society confuses love and lust. Unlike lust God's kind of love is directed outward toward others, not inward toward ourselves. It is utterly unselfish. This kind of love goes against our natural inclinations. It is possible to practice this love only if God helps us set aside our own desires and instincts, so that we can give love while expecting nothing in return.
