(part 4)
What is your destiny? Why do you exist? Is there a reason, a purpose, for human life?
These questions have baffled the greatest thinkers and philosophers throughout history.
In our twilight years we ponder so many times: 'Is our physical life is all there is? Does my life has a purpose?
Let's start from the fact that if God doesn't resurrect us, we will remain dead. As human beings we do not have immortality. Immortality is a gift from God. Romans 6:23 says the following: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord".
We have the most precious ability in life, and that is we have the power to choose. We are free to choose between two masters, however, we are not free to adjust the consequences of our choice. Each of the two masters pays with his own kind of currency. The currency of sin is eternal death. That is all you can expect in life without God. Christ's currency is eternal life - new life with God that begins on earth and later continues forever with God. It is a free gift from God. It is not something that we earn nor something that has to be paid back. A gift cannot be purchased by the recipient. He saved us because of His mercy not because of any righteous things that we have done. We receive the gift of immortality when we undergo a dramatic transformation at resurrection. The Bible plainly teaches that souls are mortal - not immortal. Through His gift we are able to walk in a new way of life, and have a new relationship with our Creator. Each of us were created in God's image in order to have an eternal and loving relationship with Him.
"For God so loved the world that He gave is only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
Three thousand years ago King David considered the apparent insignificance of human beings when compared to the vastness of the night sky. David wondered why, considering the magnificent and vast Universe, God is so concerned with human beings and their future. He realised that, within the vast scope of the heavens, we can appear to be insignificant. Yet, he perceived that by understanding that only God can reveal His purpose for creating us, David reflected on the destiny of man and the dominion God gave mankind at creation. He also realised that God has already granted people the capacity to manage significant part of His creation - our planet and its wonders. But he knew that much more was to come. After his death, and many years later, the apostle Peter said: "Brothers, I can tell confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried and his tomb is here to this day."(Acts 2:29)
Peter went on to plainly state in verse 34. "For David did not ascend into heaven!"
David is waiting for the resurrection, as are all other faithful saints. (continued)
