WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE?

(part 1)

It is not only a fact but a reality that the world we live in is exploding with knowledge, yet, at the same time it is a world that is completely void of understanding. It is a world where the knowledge of Science and Technology is at an ever increasing speed. What bothers me is that mankind does not understand the most important knowledge of all - the purpose of life?

Why do I exist? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? What is all about?

Mark Twain once wrote: "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why?"

Fyodor Dostoyevsky said: "The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive but in finding something to live for."

Someone once asked his friend : "I want to know the meaning of life?", his friend answered: "Have you tried Googling it?"

So sad, but that's exactly the reality of the state that our world finds itself in.

If you connect to the World Wide Web, you will be able to obtain disseminated information about nearly everything. Ask Google "What is the purpose of life?" and you will receive within seconds the most various quotes and answers.

Dalai Lama, Hinduism, religious Naturalism, Krishna, Aristotle and many more give their knowledge and express their beliefs, but not one of them agrees with the purpose given in the most widely published book ever written - the Bible. The precious few who read it know what it teaches on the subject, however, many of them think they know, but do they? Do you?

The reality is that life is too short. Just the other day, when I was young, I thought I would live forever until the day I woke up and asked myself 'Where all these years go?' Obviously and intellectually I knew that one day I would be old but that old age seemed so far away in the future.

Once, in a sermon, someone divided life into 5 parts of 16 years each for a total of 80 - slightly over the average lifespan these days. Each part was illustrated as a banana. After the first banana and at sixteen we cannot wait until we are 21 when we are old enough to be considered an adult, however, at sixteen we already have consumed one of the five bananas. One more and we get to be 32 which means we are only half-banana to reach the mid-point on our way to 80. What I am really trying to say is that life is indeed short and the older we get the faster it seems to go. We boarded a downhill train, speeding up, and there is nothing we can do to stop it, or even slow it down. The end is near and the inevitable is in sight.
