RECESSION

Yesterday, Saturday afternoon, I went along with my daughter Tanya, my son-in-law George and both my grand-children Rafael and Giorgia to Makro looking for a free-standing gas stove for their new kitchen. Just before we arriving I heard Tanya saying to the kids that there was a 'caravan' selling very tasting 'boerewors' rolls. This brought to my mind a story that I've read about this man who lived by the road and sold hot dogs but let's rather call them 'boerewors' rolls as we know it. This man could not hear too well, so he had no radio. He also had problems with his eyes therefore he read no newspapers and watched no TV but he sold first class 'boerewors' rolls. He put signs on the side of the road advertising how good they were. Everyday he prayed and thanked the Lord for providing his daily bread.

Everyday he would stand on the side of the road, with his friendly voice, inviting people, to taste his 'boerewors' rolls. Lots of people would buy his 'boerewors' rolls.

He increased his rolls and 'boerewors' supply. He and his wife spent more and more time baking rolls and making 'boerewors'.

He bought a bigger stove and employed more help to take care of his growing business. Because of the demanded increase in his trade he finally got his son home from college to help out. But then something happened. His son said:"Father have you not been listening to the radio? Have you not been reading the newspapers? Have you not been watching television?"

His son carried on, "There is a big recession worldwide and the domestic situation is just as bad. Many companies are closing down and people are getting paid off...".

Whereupon the father thought to himself, "well my son has been to college, he reads newspapers, he listens to the radio and watches TV and all the modern media therefore he should know very well".

So the father, taking the advice of his son, started to cut back on baking more rolls and making more 'boerewors'.

He even took down his signs on the side of the road and he no longer bothered to stand on the side of the road to sell his 'boerewors' rolls. His once flourishing business went backwards overnight.

Take note: if you had a setback, do not take a step back, for God Almighty, omnipresent and omniscient, is planning a comeback.

In Isaiah 60:1 we read: "Arise (from the depression and the prostration in which the circumstances kept you - rise to a new life), shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord), for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you."

As we read these promises, sure we cannot but long for their fulfillment. But we must patiently wait for God's timing. He is in control of history, and He weaves together all our lives into His plan.
